Luxury department store chain Nordstrom has expanded its Reserve Online & Try In Store service to around 40 stores across the US in order to strengthen its omnichannel portfolio.

Piloted in six stores last year, the service enables shoppers to select items online and try them on at their nearest Nordstrom store.

Through the programme, the retailer aims to combine the convenience of shopping online and a personalised in-store experience.

"Many of our customers like to feel and try on clothes and shoes before they purchase them and we're excited to offer them a more convenient way to do so."

Customers wishing to avail the service need to access it on the Nordstrom app.

Nordstrom customer experience senior vice-president Shea Jensen said: "We're thrilled to expand our Reserve Online & Try In Store service to provide a better experience for customers shopping with Nordstrom, whether that's online, in-store or a combination of both.

"Many of our customers like to feel and try on clothes and shoes before they purchase them and we're excited to offer them a more convenient way to do so."

Once the service is selected, the company will notify the customers through a text message, giving them details of the nearest store stocking the selected product.

Customers can also have access to a dedicated dressing room at the designated store with their name and selected items.

With the expansion, the service is now available in stores in several states, including California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Texas.

Launched in Washington, the programme is expected to be further expanded to other stores next year.
