Canada retail industry IT recruitment activity declines 17.5% in June 2021

Canada retail industry registered a 17.5% decline in IT hiring activity in June 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.

The industry’s overall hiring decreased by 1.32% in June 2021 compared with May 2021.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 5.77% share in June 2021, recording decrease of 1.46% over the last three-month average share.

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.46% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada retail industry in June 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 75.13% in June 2021, a 3.27% drop over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 10.15% share, an increase of 53.85% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 5.08%, registering a 41.18% decline from May 2021.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 4.06%, up 300% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Canada IT recruitment activity in June 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 10.17% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada retail industry during June 2021 over May 2021.

Amazon posted 87 IT jobs in June 2021 and registered a drop of 20.91% over the previous month, followed by Canadian Tire with 24 jobs and a flat growth. Loblaw Companies with 23 IT jobs and KAR Auction Services with 17 jobs, recorded a 23.33% drop and an 112.5% increase, respectively, while Lululemon Athletica recorded a 60% an increase with 8 job postings during June 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in June 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 58.38%, down by 14.81% from May 2021. Entry Level positions with a 28.93% share, a growth of 119.23% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 12.69% share, down 37.5% over May 2021.
