Canada’s retail industry IT recruitment activity drops 0.7% in August 2021

Canada’s retail industry registered a 0.7% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 7.65% in August 2021 when compared with July 2021.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 5.91% share in August 2021, recording a decrease of 0.93% over the last three-month average share.

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.74% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry in August 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 81.51% in August 2021, registering a 16.17% flat growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 7.14% share, a decrease of 15% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 4.62%, registering a flat growth from July 2021.

4) Computer and Information Research Scientists captured a share of 2.94%, up 133.33% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 14.81% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry during August 2021 over July 2021.

Amazon posted 159 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a rise of 7.43% over the previous month, followed by Canadian Tire with 32 jobs and a 68.42% growth. Affirm Holdings with 10 IT jobs and Loblaw Companies with 9 jobs, recorded a 150% flat growth and a 10% decrease, respectively, while KAR Auction Services recorded a decline of 12.5% with 7 job postings during August 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 55.88%, up by 23.15% from July 2021. Entry Level positions with a 30.67% share, registered a decline of 8.75% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 13.03% share, down 11.43% over July 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.42%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
