India’s consumer industry saw a drop of 4.2% in overall deal activity during Q3 2020, when compared with the last four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 68 deals worth $6.26bn were announced in Q3 2020, compared to the last four-quarter average of 71 deals.

Venture financing was the leading category in the quarter with 40 deals which accounted for 58.8% of all deals.

In second place was M&A with 19 deals, followed by private equity with nine transactions, respectively accounting for 27.9% and 13.2% of overall deal activity in the country’s consumer industry during the quarter.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in India’s consumer industry with total deals worth $3.77bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $2.34bn and $142.03m, respectively.

The top five consumer deals accounted for 93.2% of the overall value during Q3 2020.

The combined value of the top five consumer deals stood at $5.83bn, against the overall value of $6.26bn recorded for the month.

1) Reliance Retail Ventures’ $3.33bn asset transaction with Future Group

2) The $1.02bn private equity deal with Reliance Retail Ventures by Silver Lake Partners

3) KKR &Inc’s $754.25m private equity deal with Reliance Retail Ventures

4) The $499.43m private equity deal with Reliance Retail Ventures by General Atlantic

5) API Holdings’ acquisition of Medlife International for $235m.
