The US consumer industry saw a rise of 4.1% in overall deal activity during April 2019, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 179 deals worth $6.39bn were announced in April 2019, compared to the 12-month average of 172 deals.

M&A was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 77 deals which accounted for 43.02% of all deals.

In second place was venture financing with 76 deals, followed by private equity with 26 transactions, respectively accounting for 42.5% and 14.5% of overall deal activity in the country’s consumer industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the US consumer industry with total deals worth $3.7bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $2.08bn and $618.78m, respectively.

US consumer industry deals in April 2019: Top deals

The top five consumer industry deals accounted for 76.5% of the overall value during April 2019.

The combined value of the top five consumer industry deals stood at $4.89bn, against the overall value of $6.39bn recorded for the month. The top announced US consumer industry deal tracked by GlobalData in April 2019 was E. & J. Gallo Winery’s $1.7bn asset transaction with Constellation Brands.

In second place was the $1.1bn private equity deal with Smart & Final Stores by Apollo Funds and in third place was Sonic Financial’s $837.46m stake acquisition of Speedway Motorsports.

The $745m asset transaction with Jack Entertainment by Hard Rock International and VICI Properties and Butterfly Equity’s private equity deal with Bolthouse Farms for $510m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
