E-commerce retailer Amazon has announced a total of more than $500m in special recognition bonus for its front-line employees in the US.

The company’s full-time staff will be eligible for a bonus of $300, while part-time employees will be entitled to a $150 bonus. It is applicable for US staff employed from 1 to 31 December.

During this quarter, the retailer already invested more than $750m in extra payment for front-line hourly workforce, which includes other holiday pay incentives.

This investment is in addition to the $15 national minimum wage and takes the company’s total expenditure on special bonuses and incentives across the globe to more than $2.5bn in 2020.

Earlier this year, the retailer also announced $500m thank you bonus for its employees.

Amazon worldwide operations SVP Dave Clark in a blog post said: “I’ve been at Amazon for 22 holiday seasons and this one is definitely unique, to say the least.

In September, Amazon revealed plans to create 100,000 new, regular full and part-time employees in its operations network across the US and Canada.

In October, the retailer announced that more than 19,000 of its front-line workers in the US contracted the coronavirus between 1 March and 19 September.
