Ecommerce giant Amazon has revealed plans to open a new fulfilment centre in Mt Juliet in the US state of Tennessee.

Scheduled for launch in late 2021, the 855,000ft2 fulfilment centre is the second facility in Tennessee.

As part of this facility, the retailer could create an additional 1,000 full-time jobs.

Employees will initially go through hours of safety training, working with advanced robotics with minimum starting wage from $15.

Amazon global customer fulfilment vice president Alicia Boler Davis said: “Tennessee is a great state for business and gives us the opportunity to better serve our customers in the region.

In a separate development, Amazon decided to create another 1,000 jobs in the Republic of Ireland over the next two years.

To be based in Dublin and Cork, the new roles will take Amazon’s total Irish workforce to 5,000.

The company announced plans to invest in a 170,000 ft2 campus in Charlemont Square in Dublin city centre.

Meanwhile, Amazon India plans to open ten new warehouses, which will take its total count of warehouses in the country to 60 across 15 states.

The new warehouses or fulfilment centres will be set up in ten cities including Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.

Earlier this month, Amazon revealed plans to establish a second fulfilment centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, generating more than 1,000 new full-time jobs.

Last month, the retailer reportedly planned to build new facilities in Australia as online demand spikes amid the coronavirus pandemic.
