US-based supermarket chain Giant Food is set to invest $175m to expand and remodel its store network over the next two years.

The retailer will use the investment to establish a new store in Fairfax Circle, Virginia as well as remodel 24 existing stores across the US.

This investment follows the company’s recent $23m investment to establish a new store in Olney, Maryland, which will open next year.

As part of the revamp, the 24 stores will feature new amenities such as enhanced perishable, produce, beer, wine and spirits offerings, full-service florists.

In addition, the investment is expected to create approximately 500 new jobs by hiring full and part-time associates in the region.

Last month, Giant Food opened two new stores in Herndon and Alexandria in Virginia earlier, which allowed additional space for latest amenities.

Giant Food operates 164 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia with approximately 20,000 associates.
