California-based Impossible Foods has introduced its plant-based flagship product, Impossible Burger, in Canadian grocery stores.  

Canadian food retailer Sobeys, which is the exclusive retailer of the Impossible Burger until February, will offer the product in all of its 1,500 family stores across Canada.  

Starting this week, the burger will available in nearly 600 banner stores of Canadian food retailer Sobeys including Sobeys, Foodland, Safeway, Thrifty Foods, IGA and IGA Extra.  

Additionally, the product will be available on the retailer’s online grocery home delivery service, Voilà by Sobeys.  

Sobeys merchandising vice-president Paul MacLeod said: “We are proud to be the first national retailer to bring Impossible Foods to Canada.   

“We are always looking to find innovative products to keep our assortment interesting and innovative for families across Canada and the Impossible Burger is a great-tasting choice for customers seeking plant-based meat.”

With his partnership, Canadians can purchase the burger in grocery stores for the first time.

Last week, it was introduced on the shelves in Hong Kong and Singapore, the first international retail markets.  

Besides groceries, Impossible Burger debuted in a dozen of Canada’s top restaurants last month.  

It is available in more than 450 restaurants across the country.  

In the US, Impossible Foods has strengthened its retail presence more than 100 times compared to the past six months.  

Headquarters in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, Sobeys owns, affiliates or franchises more than 1,500 stores in all ten provinces. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Empire Company Limited.
