Japanese retailer MUJI is set to open its first Canadian flagship store next month.

Located in Vancouver, the upcoming store comprises 14,507ft² of retail space and in excess of 4,500 products.

Apart from MUJI Canada’s full range of merchandise including household goods, apparel and food, the location is also expected to feature a new store concept.

MUJI Canada president Toru Akita said: “This year marks a big step for MUJI Canada as we finally expanded to Western Canada and we will soon open our first flagship store.

“The goal of the Robson Street store is to deepen our relationships with local communities while offering new services and products in a distinctive retail space.

“In addition, by creating a relaxing environment with coffee, books and plants, we hope to help customers to make better choices toward creating their own pleasant lifestyle.”

“The goal of the Robson Street store is to deepen our relationships with local communities while offering new services and products in a distinctive retail space.”

Established in 2005, MUJI Labo is aimed at exploring basic concepts in clothing in terms of experimenting with new styles, materials and manufacturing processes.

According to the company, styles developed through MUJI Labo eventually become standard apparel in the company-operated stores.

As for the coffee counter, the company has entered a deal with local organic coffee supplier Ethical Bean Coffee.

MUJI YOURSELF offers customisation services such as embroidery, stamps, gift wrapping and label printing, allowing customers to customise MUJI products such as stationery, storage and furniture.

In-store customers can also have access to more than 40 essential oils, which will be housed at the Aroma Bar.

Founded in 1980, MUJI operates more than 800 stores worldwide.

The company’s expansion to Canada began in 2014, with the opening of the Atrium location in Toronto.

The retailer later opened stores in the Square One Shopping Centre, Mississauga, as well as one each in Yorkdale Shopping Centre and the CF Markville, Markham.
