US-based clothing retailer Gap is expanding its distribution centre in Gallatin, Sumner County, Tennessee, which will create more than 500 jobs.

As part of its plans to expand online fulfilment capabilities, the company is investing $41.7m in technology upgrades at its Gallatin distribution campus.

Tennessee governor Bill Haslam said: “Gap’s latest commitment to create more than 500 new jobs is yet another confirmation that Tennessee’s central location and skilled workforce make it the ideal place for global companies to operate major distribution facilities.

“Gap has long been a crucial part of Sumner County and this significant expansion brings us closer to our goal of making Tennessee the No. 1 location in the South-East for high-quality jobs.”

Last July, the retailer invested $3.1m in the Gallatin facility to cater to the increasing demand for e-commerce sales on Gap’s brand websites.

Gap offers a wide range of products in more than 90 countries through 3,200 company-operated stores, 450 franchise stores, and e-commerce sites.
