Omnichannel speciality retailer Tailored Brands has resumed operations at its e-commerce fulfilment centres amid the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The decision to reopen came after the company further implemented increased social distancing and sanitation protocols in compliance with the recommendation by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

The e-commerce fulfilment centres have already begun shipping online orders.

Late last month, the company announced the decision to extend the temporary closure of retail stores until 4 May complying with the guidelines from the federal, state and local governments, as well as the health authorities.

The company’s New Bedford factory in Massachusetts will also collaborate with an undisclosed privately held manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies to produce washable cotton facemasks.

The face mask for health workers can be used as an alternative to the FDA-approved mask when it is not available.

In the next few weeks, the retailer will bring back its furloughed employees to manufacture 50,000 masks. The Bedford factory will follow the same sanitation protocols at its e-commerce fulfilment centres.

Tailored Brands president and CEO Dinesh Lathi said: “Our top priority will always be the safety and wellbeing of our employees, customers and communities, and I am proud of how quickly our supply chain leadership modified our distribution centre operations to create a safe workplace environment for our fulfilment team members during this health crisis.”

The company said it continuously monitors its operation in e-commerce fulfilment centres to determine the schedule for reopening its other closed facilities.
