India-based steel maker Tata Steel has opened the country’s first organised steel retail store, steeljunction, in Kolkata, West Bengal.

The company intends to create a new concept in steel retailing for the business-to-consumer sector. The store will serve as a one-stop-shop for shopping steel products.

Spread across 6,000ft2 of space, the Kolkata store will offer steel products for four consumer segments, such as Home Décor & Gifting, Home Building, Home Making, and Tools & Implements.

The company will offer own-branded branded products, such as Tata Tiscon, Tata Pravesh, Tata Wiron, Tata Colour, Tata Agrico and Durashine at the new store.

“Steeljunction is integral to our strategic focus on the retail segment. It is aimed at providing a differentiated steel purchase experience to discerning customers.”

The company will also offer other premium branded products from its vendor partners in the homemaking space at this store.

Tata Steel CEO and managing director TV Narendran said: “Steeljunction is integral to our strategic focus on the retail segment. It is aimed at providing a differentiated steel purchase experience to discerning customers.

“Steel is the most sustainable metal with diverse applications. This initiative will give a fillip to consumption of steel as products will be made available from more accessible locations.”

Tata Steel also expects to continue its investments in distribution networks and brands on value-added segments such as retail while focussing on forming robust customer relationships.

The company allows customers to place online orders for steeljunction products through its e-selling platform, Aashiyana.

The steel manufacturer currently operates a large retail business with more than 200 distributors, 12,000 dealers and a portfolio of brands.

Tata Steel marketing and sales vice president Peeyush Gupta said: “The core purpose of steeljunction has remained the same since 2005. It is to provide a touch-and-feel experience to its consumers, including consultation on the right choice of product for their home building and homemaking needs.

“With Tata Steel’s foray into digital via www.aashiyana.tatasteel.com, steeljunction offers a physical store support in deliveries and order management.”
