Walmart has introduced a new service called Dotcom Store, which allows store associates to place orders for customers from Walmart.com through an app using their handheld touchscreen devices.

Leveraging the company’s technology, associates can use the new service to access the online merchandise from physical stores and allow customers to pay using all acceptable payment methods.

The Dotcom Store service will allow customers to order items sold and shipped by Walmart online.

Customers can shop for products with the help of a Walmart associate in store, who will search for required items on a store handheld device and place the order on their behalf.

Following the order, customers will receive a printed ticket or email/text with a barcode, which can be used to make payment. The shipment process begins following the completion of the transaction.

“The Dotcom Store offers customers even more assortment options than what’s on our physical shelves, whether that be different sizes, colours or varieties.”

Currently available across 4,700 Walmart stores, the service enables customers to pay for the products in stores through cash, check, credit/debit cards or Walmart Pay.

Walmart US digital and central operations senior vice-president Tom Ward said: “The Dotcom Store offers customers even more assortment options than what’s on our physical shelves, whether that be different sizes, colours or varieties.

“As busy families come to our stores to prepare for the holidays, they can feel confident that our associates will get them everything they need and quickly – whether it’s an item they can find on our store shelves, or online.”

In addition, Walmart plans to add marketplace items on Walmart.com to the app in the near future.
