Czech retail sales grow 0.4% in September 2012: Czech Statistical Office

Retail sales in the Czech Republic grew 0.4% in September 2012 compared to the previous month, according to the data released by Czech Statistical Office (CZSO).

Retail sales in the Czech Republic grew 0.4% in September 2012 compared to the previous month, according to the data released by Czech Statistical Office (CZSO).

Seasonal adjusted retail sales, including sale and repair of motor vehicles, increased 0.4% in September, on a monthly basis.

During the same period, seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles rose 2.8%, while motor vehicles non-adjusted sales decreased 3.4%

Month-on-month, retail sale including sale of automotive fuel decreased 0.6% in September, on a seasonally adjusted basis at constant prices.

On an annual basis, working days adjusted retail sales decreased 0.2% in September. Non-adjusted sales fell 3.3% from the corresponding month last year, partially due to a lower number of working days.

The largest contributor to the drop in September sales was food in specialised as well as in non-specialised stores, which decreased 10.1% and 5.6%, respectively.

Sales also dropped in specialised stores with other household equipment by 3.6%, with information and communication equipment by 3.5%, and in specialised stores dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles by 2.6%.

For the whole Q3 2012 retail sales, including the automotive segment, declined 1.3% at constant prices, y-o-y.

Sales in the automotive segment dropped by 2.8% and in retail segment by 0.7%.

Sales for food dropped by 3.2%, yet sales for automotive fuel and for non-food goods conversely increased by 0.8% and 0.6%, respectively.
