Latvia retail sales stable in September: Central Statistical Bureau

According to the data released by the country's Central Statistical Bureau, Latvian retail sales turnover remained unchanged in the month of September 2013, as compared to last month.

According to the data released by the country’s Central Statistical Bureau, Latvian retail sales turnover remained unchanged in the month of September 2013, as compared to last month.

Retail sales in food products has dropped by 1.2%, whereas of non-food products grew by 0.8%.

Total retail trade turnover, at current prices, decreased by 5.8% in September of this year compared with August. In September 2012, retail turnover dropped by 6.6% as compared to August 2012.

Year-over-year, total retail trade turnover in September increased by 2.1%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices.

In food commodity group, sales were up by 2%, but in non-food commodity group sales fell by 2.1%, of which, retail sale of automotive fuel dropped 3%.

Most rapid turnover increase in September was observed in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet – 34.0%, in retail sale of sporting equipment, games and toys – 23.7%, in retail sale of textiles – 15.1%, as well as in retail sale of furniture, lighting equipment and other household articles – 14.3%.

In comparison with September of the previous year, total retail trade turnover at current prices rose by 1.9%.

For third quarter, total retail trade turnover increased 2.5%, compared with the same period last year.

During the period of time from January to September, as compared to the same period of the previous year, total retail trade turnover has grown by 3.7%, according to calendar adjusted data.
