Marks & Spencer to enhance customer shopping experience

British retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) will install free wi-fi across all its UK stores and provide customer assistants with iPads to better serve them.

British retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) will install free wi-fi across all its UK stores and provide customer assistants with iPads to better serve them.

The move is part of the UK retailer’s plan to integrate its internet and high-street offerings, reported The Telegraph.

The retailer will allow shoppers to use wi-fi to browse the company’s full range of stock on their smartphones and customer assistants with their iPads can better assist shoppers.

The technology drive is being led by e-Commerce and multi-channel division executive director Laura Wade-Grey.

The company is investing £100m on new technology and £150m on a new model, or platform, for its website that will be ready by 2014.

M&S is testing the technology at its newly opened store at Cheshire Oaks, near Liverpool.

Occupying 150,000ft² of space, the new Cheshire Oaks store opened on 29th August is said to be the second biggest M&S store in Britain and will boost the company, according to M&S.

The store includes revamped home and beauty sections as well as other new technology such as big screens promoting clothing, and interactive screens allowing customers to browse stock and make orders.

M&S CEO Marc Bolland said that the company is also investing £500m to open new stores across the country.

The retailer offers menswear, kidswear and home products, as well as quality foods, sourced from around 2,000 suppliers globally with 700 of them in the UK.
