US retail sales marginally up in April 2012: US DoC

Retail and food service sales in the US increased a marginal 0.1% to $408bn in April 2012, on a seasonally adjusted basis, from the previous month, according to the US Department of Commerce (DoC).

Retail and food service sales in the US increased a marginal 0.1% to $408bn in April 2012, on a seasonally adjusted basis, from the previous month, according to the US Department of Commerce (DoC).

In March 2012, seasonally adjusted retail and food service sales rose 0.8% to $411.1bn, on a monthly basis.

Retail trade sales were up 0.1% month-on-month in April 2012, whereas retail trade sales advanced 0.8% in March.

On a monthly basis, motor vehicle & parts dealers sales grew 0.5%, while furniture and home furnishing stores sales increased 0.7% in April.

Sales at electronics & appliance stores and health & personal care stores were up 0.2% and 0.6%, respectively, month-on-month in April 2012.

Sporting goods, hobby, book & music stores, nonstore retailers and miscellaneous store retailers recorded 0.7%, 1.1% and 0.8% increase in sales.

Food and beverage stores sales climbed 0.3%, while sales at food services & drinking places advanced 0.4% in April from the previous month.

Month-on-month, sales declined by 0.3% and 1.8% in April at gasoline stations and building material & garden supplies dealers, respectively.

Year-on-year, seasonally adjusted retail and food service sales grew 6.4% in April, after rising 6.5% in March 2021.

Excluding motor vehicle and parts, retail and food service sales increased 5.9% in April, on an annual basis.

Retail trade sales were up 6.1% in April 2012, compared to the same month a year ago.

Nonstore retailers sales jumped 11% and building material and garden equipment and supplies dealers sales climbed 10.3% in April from last year.

Year-on-year, motor vehicle & parts dealers sales rose 8.4% and sales at food services & drinking places grew 8.6% in April 2012.

In the February-April period, total sales advanced up 6.6%, as compared with the same period a year earlier.
