The retailers have decided to buck the traditional Thanksgiving Holiday by having stores open on the Thursday to increase sales.
Workers at Walmart are now mulling over a strike action and have the support of United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) and associate group OUR Walmart.
The retail major however has termed the opposition to be a very small group and plans to go ahead with its plans for the big holiday weekend.
"Last year, our highest customer traffic during the Black Friday weekend was during the 10pm hour on Thursday.
"According to The National Retail Federation, Thanksgiving night shopping has surged over the past three years," said a Walmart spokesperson.
A Target spokesperson added "Target’s opening time was carefully evaluated with our guests, team and the business in mind.
"Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest of the year, and we appreciate our Target team’s flexibility on this weekend and throughout the holiday season."
