Ikea to open new store in Indianapolis this October

Swedish furniture retailer Ikea is set to open a new 289,000ft² store in Indianapolis, US, in October.

The proposed Ikea Fishers store will be the company’s first location in the state of Indiana and its 45th in the country.

The closest stores include IKEA West Chester in Cincinnati, Ohio; IKEA Bolingbrook in Chicago; and IKEA Schaumburg.

Ikea Fishers store manager Holly Davidson said: “We are thrilled by the excellent construction progress made to date, and believe we can complete the remaining milestones and interior build-up by mid-October.

“We look forward to introducing a whole new way of shopping for the home to customers from Central Indiana and beyond.”

“Besides furnishing our store, we also are focused on continuing recruitment and training of all the coworkers joining the Ikea family.

Located along the eastern side of Interstate 69, the upcoming IKEA Fishers store and its 1,000 parking spaces will have a total built-up area of 35 acres.

According to the retailer, the store will feature its architectural design and a solar rooftop, in line with the solar presence at 90% of its US locations.

Other features include around 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a 325-seat restaurant.

In addition to more than 500 jobs created during construction, around 250 workers will be employed at the store.
