Asian retailer DFI Retail Group (DFI) has entered a strategic partnership with Dingdong, a fresh food e-commerce platform, to enhance their supply chains and retail networks.
The goal is to create a digitalised cross-border supply chain system.
The partners will offer a variety of high-quality products at competitive prices to Hong Kong consumers through DFI’s Wellcome supermarkets, with an anticipated sales target of HK$100m ($12m) in the year following the launch.
The initial phase commenced on 9 April 2025, with six selected Dingdong vegetables now available in 280 Wellcome stores, Wellcome’s online shop and on the food delivery platform foodpanda.
The range of products will be incrementally extended to other premium supermarket brands under DFI such as Market Place and 3hreesixty.
DFI Retail Group food chief executive officer Curtis Liu stated: “This partnership with DDL [DingDong (Cayman) Ltd] is to fully leverage the core strengths of both parties to jointly build an efficient digitalised crossborder supply chain. It enhances the quality and cost-effectiveness of fresh produce for our customers, creating a win-win situation. We believe this innovative model will significantly improve supply chain efficiency, ensuring that every customer can enjoy fresh, high-quality products.”

By GlobalDataThe partners plan to jointly develop a digitalised cross-border supply chain and integrate their data systems.
An AI prediction system will be employed to dynamically adjust inventory levels across DFI’s supermarkets, aiming to reduce or minimise out-of-stock situations.
The system predicts demand variations for items such leafy vegetables based on weather conditions and holidays in Hong Kong, ensuring an accurate supply level.
This digitalised supply chain will encompass everything from upstream planting processes to downstream retail activities.
To guarantee product quality, DFI and Dingdong intend to implement “one product, one code” traceability technology for vegetables supplied to Hong Kong.
Customers can access products information including planting records, inspection reports and transportation routes by scanning a code on purchased Dingdong products at DFI supermarkets.
DDL vice president Yang Shaoming said: “This collaboration integrates DDL’s supply chain capabilities with Hong Kong’s retail network. We will utilise our direct sourcing and digitalised supply chain to efficiently deliver high quality, safe fresh food to Hong Kong, enriching local shopping options and making choices more affordable.”
