Walmart Canada has launched digital banking and flexible payment solutions provider Klarna’s in-store payment options throughout its network of more than 400 locations. 

Customers will have the option to use Klarna for in-store payments by scanning a QR code at assisted checkout lanes.

Customers can opt to pay the total amount at once or split their purchase of more than C$50 ($36.13) into four interest-free instalments by scanning a QR code with Klarna’s system.  

This service is already available on Walmart Canada’s website and mobile app. 

Klarna chief commercial officer David Sykes stated: “As Klarna continues to bridge digital and physical retail, we’re proud to collaborate with Walmart Canada to bring smarter, more flexible ways to pay to millions of shoppers.  

“This milestone underscores our ambition to be the everyday spending partner for consumers – everywhere and for everything.”

Since its launch in 2020, Klarna’s in-store payment solution has facilitated more than 13.7m in-store transactions, providing flexibility for in-store shopping experiences. 

Walmart Canada chief growth officer Joseph Godse stated: “At Walmart Canada, we strive to be Canada’s most trusted omnichannel retailer, and that means catering to our customers’ needs – no matter how they choose to shop with us.  

“We’re always looking for innovative ways to enhance the shopping experience and provide more flexibility and convenience for our customers. 

“Introducing BNPL options, powered by Klarna, across our stores allows us to provide even more payment choice to the 1.5m customers we have the opportunity to serve each day.” 

In early 2025, the retailer revealed plans to invest C$6.5bn up to 2029 to fast-track its growth trajectory
