US-based grocer Kroger has announced plans to hire more than 18,000 employees across its family of companies in preparation for the upcoming holiday period and beyond.  

The recruitment drive will include a range of in-store roles such as cashiers, baggers, deli and bakery clerks, and pharmacy technicians.

Its comprehensive compensation packages include competitive salaries and wages, affordable healthcare and retirement savings plans.”  

Since 2018, the company has increased wages and benefits by 38%. 

According to the grocer, its tuition reimbursement programme offers up to $21,000 for both part-time and full-time staff, covering education from general educational development courses to PhD programmes.  

Since its introduction, the initiative has contributed more than $64m, with 89% of recipients hourly employees.

Kroger also said it delivers role-specific training through its internal learning platforms and provides health and wellness support, including access to Magellan Health’s 24-hour services and BetterHelp virtual counselling.  

In addition, associates are offered financial guidance and employee discounts on groceries, travel, electronics, and other services.

Last month, Kroger broadened its grocery delivery collaboration with DoorDash, which now provides services from its stores across the US.  

From 1 October 2025, DoorDash provides delivery options from Kroger’s 2,700 locations nationwide. 

Several other retailers, such as Amazon and Bath & Body Works, have disclosed their hiring strategies for the upcoming holiday season. 

Earlier this month, Amazon announced plans to hire 250,000 people across the US for the upcoming 2025 holiday period.  

The new hires will include full-time, part-time and seasonal positions across its fulfilment and transportation networks.  

The e-commerce company will begin posting roles weekly from October through to December.   

Last month, Bath & Body Works announced its plan to recruit more than 30,000 seasonal associates across the US, Canada and Puerto Rico in anticipation of holiday season demand.
