German drugstore retailer Drogeriemarkt (DM) has collaborated with French retail digitalisation company VusionGroup to implement the EdgeSense digital shelf platform as part of its digital transformation. 

VusionGroup’s EdgeSense system incorporates centralised communication, localisation and connectivity tools.

The system is supported by Internet of Things (IoT), data analytics, computer vision and AI.  

It is designed to streamline store operations and simplify workflows for staff. 

The collaboration currently spans 70 DM outlets, with 20 already using the tech and additional rollouts planned.

The platform will assist DM employees in locating products more efficiently during order fulfilment through features such as LED shelf indicators (pick-to-light).

Store staff will also be able to access detailed product information via digital labels and mobile devices, allowing quicker responses to customer queries.

DM has more than 93,000 employees in 4,200 stores in 14 European countries. It recorded €19.19bn ($22.11bn) in revenue for the 2024–2025 financial year.  

VusionGroup works with 350 retail groups in Europe, Asia and North America. 

In October 2025, British supermarket Morrisons partnered Vusion Group to deploy electronic shelf labels (ESLs) across its 497 supermarkets.  

The retailer was the first large UK supermarket chain to introduce the technology across its entire store network.  

VusionGroup will deploy 10.8 million smart electronic shelf labels at Morrisons outlets.
