IKEA retailer Ingka Group has said it could remove around 800 roles from its Group functions as part of a move to streamline the organisation.
The changes are intended to “simplify” the business to support “faster decisions, lower costs and ultimately lower prices for customers”, the company said in a press statement.

Ingka Group’s chief executive Juvencio Maeztu, who took over in November, said the organisation had become too complex for a retail environment that requires speed and agility.
He commented: “We have grown too complex in a retail environment that requires speed and agility.
“Simplicity is one of our core values, and with this step, we are putting it at the centre of how we organise, work and lead the company.”
Maeztu added that the planned reductions were “driven by our purpose” rather than a focus on maximising profit, and that the company would support those affected.
He said: “Decisions like these are never easy, and we’ll do our utmost to support our co-workers in the best possible way in a time of change.”
Maeztu also said the group is investing in reskilling and upskilling.
The announcement comes as Ingka continues to expand. Since 2020, the company has grown from around 375 stores to more than 640 customer meeting points across 32 countries, including 54 new locations opened in the most recent financial year.
In 2025, Ingka Investments acquired logistics technology company Locus to improve delivery reliability for Ikea customers.
Ingka recently said it would pilot new stores for smaller cities and suburban areas in North America and Europe. Up to 20 stores are planned to open by September, creating 500 jobs.
It operates under franchise agreements with Inter Ikea Systems and has three business areas: Ikea Retail, Ingka Investments and Ingka Centres.
The company oversees operations for Ikea Retail in 32 markets and represents 87% of the business area’s sales.
