This compares to an 11% increase versus Q3 2021.

Notably, Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers jobs accounted for a 21% share of the global retail industry’s artificial intelligence-related total new job postings in Q3 2022, down 40% over the prior quarter.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers, with a share of 21%, emerged as the top artificial intelligence-related job roles within the retail industry in Q3 2022, with new job postings drop by 40% quarter-on-quarter. Computer and Information Systems Managers came in second with a share of 8% in Q3 2022, with new job postings drop by 41% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent artificial intelligence roles include Data Scientists with an 8% share in Q3 2022, General and Operations Managers with a 2% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in retail industry accounted for 40% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2022 were Amazon.com, Walmart, Ocado Group and RealReal. Together they accounted for a combined share of 40% of all artificial intelligence-related active jobs in the retail industry.

Amazon.com posted 4,613 jobs in Q3 2022 and registered a drop of 45% over the previous quarter, followed by Walmart with 549 jobs and a 38% drop. Ocado Group with 436 jobs and RealReal with 395 jobs, recorded a % growth and a 53% decrease, respectively, while CVS Health recorded a 6% decline with 297 job postings during Q3 2022.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 58% share of total active job postings, Q3 2022

The largest share of artificial intelligence-related new job postings in the retail industry in Q3 2022 was in the US with 58% followed by India (8%) and the UK (7%). The share represented by the US was nine percentage points lower than the 66% share it accounted for in Q2 2022.
