The top five companies accounted for 55% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that NIKE filed the most social responsibility patents within the retail industry in Q3 2023. The company filed 66 social responsibility-related patents in the quarter, compared with 56 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Lululemon Athletica with 6 social responsibility patent filings, Levi Strauss & Co (5 filings), and Decathlon (4 filings) in Q3 2023.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 33% share of total patent filings
The largest share of social responsibility related patent filings in the retail industry in Q3 2023 was in the US with 33%, followed by China (16%) and Japan (6%). The share represented by the US was 1% lower than the 34% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.
