The top five companies accounted for 50% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that NIKE filed the most social responsibility patents within the retail industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 43 social responsibility-related patents in the quarter, compared with 74 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Decathlon with 8 social responsibility patent filings, Lululemon Athletica (3 filings), and Levi Strauss & Co (3 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 29% share of total patent filings
The largest share of social responsibility related patent filings in the retail industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 29%, followed by China (17%) and Japan (14%). The share represented by the US was 0.8% lower than the 30% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
