Supermarket chain Schnuck Markets has signed an agreement to buy 19 Shop ‘n Save stores from US-based retailing company Supervalu.

Of the total 19 outlets, 14 stores are located in Missouri and five are in Illinois. Fifteen of the locations include in-store pharmacies, while one store in Union, Missouri, is a standalone pharmacy.

In order to complete the store rebrand and upgrade point-of-sale systems, Schnuck will shut down each store for around two and a half days.

“We’ll be working closely with Supervalu and Shop ‘n Save to ensure a smooth and successful transition.”

Schnuck Markets’ chairman and CEO Todd Schnuck said: “Schnucks is proud to be growing in our hometown of St. Louis, excited about the opportunity to serve new customers, and looking forward to welcoming the employees at these 19 stores to Schnucks.

“We want long-time customers of each store to know that we are eager to earn your business, and we’ll be working closely with Supervalu and Shop ‘n Save to ensure a smooth and successful transition.”

Schnucks has agreed to provide jobs to all employees working at the 19 stores. It will also purchase four of Shop ‘n Save’s seven fuel centres.
