Amazon has announced plans to hire 250,000 people across the US for the upcoming 2025 holiday period. 

The new hires will include full-time, part-time and seasonal positions across its fulfilment and transportation networks.

The e-commerce company will begin posting roles weekly from October through to December.  

Vacancies will be available in several regions, including rural parts of the country. 

Regular employees in full-time and part-time roles will earn an average of $23 per hour, with benefits included, while seasonal staff will receive more than $19 per hour on average. 

Amazon stated: “The holidays are one of the most exciting times at Amazon — both because of the joy our customers feel, and because it’s when we welcome thousands of new teammates into our network.”

The company is investing more than $1bn in 2025 to raise wages and lower healthcare expenses for fulfilment and transportation employees in the US.  

When benefits are included, the average total compensation for these positions exceeds $30 per hour. 

In September, Amazon agreed to a $2.5bn settlement with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) after allegations that it enrolled customers in Prime subscriptions without proper consent and made cancellations unnecessarily difficult. Millions of consumers may now qualify for refunds of up to $51. 

In the same month, Amazon announced plans to close all 19 of its Fresh supermarkets in the UK after a “thorough evaluation of business operations and the very substantial growth opportunities in online delivery”. 

Five of the Fresh sites will be converted into Whole Foods stores.
