
British co-operative group Co-op and the University of Warwick have opened a new franchise store on the Coventry campus.
The new store will replace the former Rootes grocery store.

The 6,500ft² outlet was developed jointly by the retailer and the university to serve students, staff and visitors.
The store provides food-to-go options such as meal deals, hot food, an in-store bakery and Costa coffee.
An expanded world foods range has been added to meet the needs of the university’s international student population, alongside fresh produce, ready meals, pizzas and everyday goods.
The shop includes 20 self-service tills, the largest number in Co-op’s estate, supported by manned tills.

By GlobalDataAccording to the retailer, this set-up allows more than 1,000 customers to be served per hour at busy times during the academic day.
Additional features include an independently run Post Office and University of Warwick-branded products.
University of Warwick director of food and beverage Matt Drew stated: “The University of Warwick is delighted to be launching a new Co-op franchise store on campus to serve our communities that are studying, living, working and visiting the University.
“With our shared values and commitments to sustainability, Fairtrade, inclusivity and food quality, Co-op is the partner of choice for Warwick and an exciting new addition for our campus community.”
The store carries Fairtrade products, sources all own-brand fresh and frozen meat and dairy from the UK and includes soft plastic recycling facilities.
