Instacart has launched a fully integrated shopping and checkout app inside OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
The new app enables users to select groceries and complete an embedded instant checkout, without leaving the chat interface.

Instacart is the first grocery partner on ChatGPT to deliver a complete in-chat shopping experience, powered by the Agentic Commerce Protocol.
The combined setup links OpenAI’s models with Instacart’s live retail infrastructure, allowing users to access meal ideas, browse products and submit orders within a single conversation.

By GlobalDataThrough the integration, customers can shop across more than 1,800 retailers connected to Instacart’s real-time grocery network and fulfilment system.
The app uses OpenAI models to identify suitable items from nearby stores, assemble a cart for review and enable payment to be completed directly within the chat.
Orders placed via the integration are fulfilled and delivered using Instacart’s existing logistics network.
The payment process currently accepts credit cards, with support for digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay expected shortly.
Payments are powered by payment processing platform Stripe.
ChatGPT vice-president and head Nick Turley added: “With the Instacart app directly in ChatGPT, users can go from meal planning to checkout in a single, seamless conversation.
