North America grocery technology provider Instacart has acquired Wynshop, a company providing e-commerce solutions for grocers and retailers.

Wynshop’s clients include Wakefern, Pattison and other companies across North America and internationally.

Instacart aims to combine the expertise and retailer networks of both companies to strengthen its offerings, enabling more retailers to refine their online presence and intensify customer engagement.

Instacart chief business officer Chris Rogers stated: “Our deep integration with retailers and our leading technologies are critical advantages for Instacart. By offering our partners an array of enterprise-grade solutions, we can help them better serve customers and drive sales.

“By acquiring Wynshop, we’re building upon our retailer relationships, adding new capabilities to Storefront Pro, and over time, bringing our enterprise solutions to even more partners to help them grow their business.”

Post-acquisition, Wynshop will continue its operations as a fully owned subsidiary of Instacart, with immediate financial contributions from Wynshop’s gross transaction value remaining unrecognised by Instacart.

Instacart plans to broaden the scope of its enterprise technology offerings to include Wynshop’s clientele, encompassing e-commerce, advertising, fulfilment and in-store solutions.

Instacart’s e-commerce platform, Storefront Pro, underpins the white-label sites of 600 retail banners including household names such as Costco and Publix.

Instacart’s retail media solution Carrot Ads helps retailers generate new digital revenue streams through advertising on their proprietary e-commerce platforms.

The company also offers a range of fulfilment options from rapid 30-minute delivery to next-day services and pickup alternatives.

Its in-store solution suite aims to transform traditional retail spaces with AI-equipped Caper Carts that personalise shopping experiences and expedite checkout processes, complemented by Carrot Tags’ technology that enhances item-picking accuracy.

Wynshop CEO Neil Moses stated: “Joining Instacart gives us the opportunity to scale our impact and accelerate innovation with a partner that shares our commitment to helping retailers succeed in an increasingly omnichannel grocery landscape.”

In November 2024, Instacart revealed that its AI-powered smart carts are now available in grocers including Bowman’s Market, Maurer’s Market IGA and Neiman’s Family Market across various US states.
