UK department store chain John Lewis is partnering Uber Eats to introduce a pilot programme, offering a rapid delivery service for customers looking for nursery, premium beauty and gifting items.

The pilot programme will be available within an 8km radius of John Lewis stores in Leeds and Stratford, east London.

The pilot will run until early September 2025. It aims to gauge customer demand, buying patterns and the logistics of rapid delivery before considering a broader national launch.

The selection of 150 curated products, including items such as the retailer’s popular hand-held fans, emergency baby bottles and last-minute gifts, can be delivered to customers in as little as 30 minutes through the Uber Eats app.

John Lewis category lead Stella Winklewska stated: “Our pilot with Uber Eats will make it easier than ever for customers to access the John Lewis products they love, delivered to their location within the hour.  It’s an exciting strategic step to reach a new audience, and helps ensure that we’re there for our customers when they really need us – however they choose to shop with us.”

This initiative aligns with the growing trend of consumers seeking quick delivery options, as evidenced by the significant increase in retail sales through Uber Eats, including an 85% rise in make-up sales and an 88% increase in perfume sales since 2024.
