Lekkerland, a subsidiary of the REWE Group, has partnered with VusionGroup to digitalise its autonomous 24/7 smart kiosks using self-checkout systems.

The kiosks are strategically placed in high-traffic areas such as healthcare facilities, corporate environments and public venues throughout Germany.

The technology provided by VusionGroup facilitates General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)-compliant monitoring of shelves in real-time, cloud-driven management of pricing and promotions, and inventory oversight, all remotely managed from Lekkerland’s headquarters in Frechen.

With the incorporation of VusionGroup’s Cloud infrastructure, electronic shelf labels and AI-enabled shelf surveillance technology, Lekkerland is now able to monitor every product on every shelf comprehensively.

The system allows for immediate updates to pricing and promotional offers, generates precise restocking notifications, and provides detailed analytics on the performance of each item.

The adoption of AI for shelf monitoring has quickly led to product availability on shelves being maintained at levels exceeding 95%.

Lekkerland smart store development senior rollout manager Luca Heidari stated: “The solutions from VusionGroup are our eyes inside the autonomous smart kiosks. They allow us to precisely manage restocking without having to be on-site.”

All new stores adopting this model will now be equipped with VusionGroup’s solutions from the beginning.

Staff members can utilise handheld devices to update digital labels, with product information and pricing automatically synchronised with Lekkerland’s central merchandise management system, eliminating the necessity for manual intervention at store level.

VusionGroup Europe SEVP Sébastien Fourcy stated: “We are proud to support Lekkerland in scaling its 24/7 smart kiosk model across Germany. Our collaboration demonstrates how AI, IoT and data-driven automation can unlock new levels of efficiency, flexibility, and responsiveness in retail — even in unmanned formats. It’s a powerful example of how VusionGroup is transforming retail operations in real time.”

Rollout of the solution has been extended across the country after a successful initial pilot in Düsseldorf.

Further expansions are planned with more store openings during 2025.
