Discount retailer Lidl GB has unveiled a significant investment strategy, earmarking £500m ($667m) for the development of its retail network.

The initiative includes the launch of more than 40 new outlets throughout the UK within the fiscal year 2025.

Lidl has released its 2025 site requirements catalogue in alignment with its objective to ensure communities nationwide have access to cost-effective, premium-quality groceries.

The document details a multitude of prospective sites for future stores, such as urban high streets, suburban shopping complexes and central locations that blend residential and commercial use.

The revised compilation encompasses potential store sites across England, Scotland, and Wales – from Newton Mearns to Dawlish and Builth Wells to Aylsham, in addition to the London Borough of Barnet.

Lidl GB chief real estate officer Richard Taylor stated: “This level of investment is a clear sign of our ambition. As we enter our fourth decade in Great Britain and hurtle towards a thousand stores, there are still so many parts of the country crying out for convenient access to a Lidl store. That’s why we welcome the measures proposed in the Government’s Planning and Infrastructure Bill – they recognise the urgent need to remove barriers to development and support the kind of growth we at Lidl are working towards.

“Our latest site requirements brochure reinforces the scale of our ambition for the future. New Lidl stores mean new jobs, new opportunities for British suppliers and continued investment into local economies. We’re proud to be one of the fastest-growing supermarkets in the country, and with this investment, we’re taking another big step in our journey.”

The locations featured in Lidl’s site requirement catalogue are indicative of areas under consideration for future store development; they do not constitute confirmed store openings or plans. The catalogue serves as an extensive list from which certain sites will be selected for development into operational stores.

Key developments for the year include the finalisation of the Belvedere Regional Distribution Centre’s enlargement, effectively doubling its capacity.

Lidl is also poised to commence construction on a new distribution hub in Leeds as part of its infrastructure enhancement plan to support an expanding store footprint.

In February 2025, Lidl GB announced plans to sell its products via the TikTok Shop platform for customers across the UK.
