Swedish home furnishings retailer Ikea has received approval from the City Council of Norfolk, Virginia, US, to open its new store.
The retailer anticipates to open its second store in the state at Hampton Roads.

This move is intended to bolster its presence in the southeastern region of the country.
The company expects to begin construction work later this year, and complete it by next year.
Ikea US president Lars Petersson said: “We are humbled by the support from Norfolk officials and staff in favour of an Ikea store on land included on the city’s regional growth plan.
“Ikea Norfolk will bring the unique IKEA shopping experience closer to Hampton Roads shoppers who have not been to an Ikea store or are not able to visit frequently.”

By GlobalDataThe newly proposed 331,000ft² store will be located eight miles east of downtown Norfolk and feature 1,200 parking spaces.
It will be built on approximately 19 acres at the northwestern corner of Interstate 64 and Northampton Boulevard.
The new Ikea Norfolk store will feature around 10,000 exclusively designed items, about 50 inspirational room-settings, as well as have a supervised children’s play area, and a 450-seat restaurant.
Ikea anticipates that around 500 employment opportunities will be created during the construction phase and employ nearly 250 people once the store becomes operational.
