
Discount retailer Pepco Group has completed ten years of operations in Romania with the opening of its 500th store.
Pepco entered the Romanian market in March 2015 with stores in Bucharest, Ploiesti, and Campina, and the country has since become one of the company’s main markets.

The company now operates 500 stores in more than 100 cities and employs nearly 4,000 people.
Romania is now the group’s second-largest market, a growth driver in Central and Eastern Europe, and is used for piloting new concepts.
Pepco operations improvement director Anca Radu said: “Romania has become one of the most dynamic and strategically important markets for Pepco Group. Our scale, customer base, and consistent performance here are vital to our overall success in Central and Eastern Europe.
“Reaching 500 stores in our tenth anniversary year is a testament not only to the loyalty of our customers but also to the dedication of our teams on the ground.”
In 2024, the company reported a turnover of 2.9bn lei ($673.2m) and a net profit of 424m lei, with year-on-year growth of 13% and 29%, respectively.
More than 70% of store managers at Pepco have been promoted internally.
Pepco South Europe regional operations director Bogdan Grigoriu said: “At Pepco, we don’t just hire potential — we grow it. Our philosophy of ‘promote from within’ means that most of our leaders started on the shop floor, and today they manage teams or lead departments at head office.
“Our culture is simple: safe, supportive, and fair, with development and recognition that colleagues can truly feel. This has been one of the cornerstones of our success in Romania.”

By GlobalDataSince 2019, Pepco has allocated 35m lei to community projects in literacy, child protection, and education, and has worked with organisations such as Teach for Romania and Save the Children Romania.
Going forward, Pepco plans to expand further into smaller towns and neighbourhoods.
