Japan-based Fast Retailing has plans to open its first Uniqlo roadside outlet in Bangkok, Thailand, in March.

Roadside outlets are considered to be a successful business model in its domestic market.

The Bangkok outlet will be located on Phatthanakan road and open on 23 March.

“With the opening of the roadside outlet, the brand aims to address growing demand in an area with around 700,000 residents.”

Uniqlo Thailand Co chief operating officer Tomoyoshi Oguri was quoted by Japan Today as saying that with the opening of the roadside outlet, the brand aims to address growing demand in an area with around 700,000 residents.

The outlet will stock clothing for men, women and children, as well as have a retail space of around 1,440m² and parking spots for up to 60 cars.

Around 2,000 to 3,000 customers are expected to visit the outlet a week.

The first outlet under this concept opened in 2011 in Japan, following which the model was tried out in South Korea and Taiwan. Thailand will be the fourth market to feature this model.

Roadside outlets are considered to be part of the company’s core growth story. This is seen as its new business model for the Thai market. Of the 35 stores, it has been operating 21 stores at various shopping malls of Bangkok.

Meanwhile, the Thai unit also intends to launch two more outlets within the Central Group’s department stores in the provinces of Samut Sakhon and Phitsanulok.

At the end of last November, the casual wear retailer had 175 Uniqlo stores in South-East Asia and Oceania.

The Japanese company intends to open 40 outlets in these regions by this August.
