SPAR Croatia inaugurated its first SPAR City outlet in central Zagreb at the beginning of October 2025.

The store spans 200m² and is housed in a restored 19th-century building. 

The renovation, carried out in consultation with Croatia’s heritage protection office, was completed within five months.  

The company invested more than €1m ($1.15m) in the project. 

The new SPAR City branch offers freshly made products such as salads, chia bowls, skyr yoghurts, focaccias, mini pizzas, croissants and desserts, along with a range of ready-meals such as stews, grilled and boiled vegetables, meat-based meals and side dishes.

A total of eight employees work at the outlet, which also includes self-service checkouts for faster transactions.  

The store incorporates a CO₂-based cooling system and uses LED lighting to enhance energy efficiency. 

In September 2025, DESPAR Italia expanded its footprint in the country with the launch of seven new stores in both the DESPAR and DESPAR Express formats.  

A new DESPAR Express store opened in Vitulano, providing a variety of DESPAR Own Brand offerings. 

Two new DESPAR Express stores had been opened in San Lorenzo and Caraffa del Bianco, Calabria, offering daily-use products to customers. 

In July 2025, Casino Group, the licensed operator of SPAR in France, launched the first new generation SPAR supermarket in Luynes, Aix-en-Provence. 

The updated SPAR store design enabled retailers to modify their shops to align with customer requirements. 

The Luynes supermarket was developed in collaboration with Casino Group and SPAR France’s independent retailers, who operate 95% of SPAR stores nationwide.
