Global coffeehouse chain Starbucks has launched its inaugural flagship store in Spain inside the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, which is home to Real Madrid football club.

The store is designed by Starbucks and Premium Experience, and operated by Alsea.

The design pays tribute to the original Pike Place store in Seattle while capturing the energy of Madrid’s San Miguel Market.

The new coffeehouse spans more than 900m² (almost 10,000ft²) across two floors.

The ground floor features a curated marketplace with custom fixtures and a concierge barista station.

The upper level houses a reserve bar, lounge areas and tasting rooms with views of the stadium’s field.  A mixology bar is also available.

Starbucks international CEO Brady Brewer stated: “This new flagship location at Bernabéu is not just a coffeehouse - it’s a global destination. It’s a tribute to our roots, a reflection of Madrid’s creative energy and a symbol of the community connections we aim to build.”

Madrid-based artist Cristina Mejías has contributed a suspended sculpture installed through the central atrium.

The store opening has seen hiring of 65 new joiners.

Starbucks, under the operation of Alsea in the Iberian market, has established 222 outlets in 48 Spanish cities since entering the country in 2002.

Starbucks Iberia general manager Antonio Romero stated: “This flagship is unlike anything else in Spain. It is a destination that combines exclusive products, innovative design and the unmistakable Starbucks experience. We are proud to welcome customers into a space that reflects both our global brand and the unique spirit of Madrid.”

The flagship opening at Bernabéu aligns with the stadium's ongoing transformation, which includes retail and hospitality beyond its football use.

In February 2025, Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol announced plans to open 500 new stores across the Middle East by 2030.
