American retailer Target is set to expand its next-day delivery service for online orders to 35 major US metropolitan areas by the end of October.

The expansion will cover cities such as San Francisco, Chicago and Los Angeles, along with several other key cities in the US.

Customers in these areas will be able to receive their purchases the following day.

The retailer has stated that most items available for shipping, which represent the majority of products sold in its stores, will be eligible for this next-day delivery service. For orders over $35, the service will be free.

Additionally, next-day delivery will be available without a minimum spend for Target Circle 360 members and those using a Target Circle Card.

Target has indicated its intention to extend next-day delivery to even more locations next year, aligning with its stores-as-hubs strategy.

Currently, the company provides same-day delivery to approximately 80% of the US population and two-day shipping to 99%.

The Order Pickup and Drive-Up services will continue to be available free of charge. 

In the second quarter of 2025, Target generated net sales of $25.2bn, down 0.9% from the prior year.

The drop was driven by a 1.2% decline in merchandise sales, offsetting a 14.2% growth in non-merchandise sales.

Last month, US speciality beauty retailer Ulta Beauty and Target decided not to renew their Ulta Beauty at Target shop-in-shop partnership after the existing contract expires in August 2026.

The long-term alliance between the retailers, which began in 2021, broadened access to high-end beauty products.

It also allowed consumers to link their Ulta Beauty Rewards and Target Circle accounts for combined benefits.
