Target announces price cuts on 3,000 items ahead of 2025 holiday season

US-based retailer Target has announced price reductions on 3,000 food, beverage and household essential items across the US from November 2025. 

The price reduction is aimed to help consumers manage household budgets during the upcoming holiday season. 

The price cuts cover a range of everyday goods, including pantry staples, baby products and cleaning supplies.  

It has also reintroduced its Thanksgiving meal offering, providing a holiday dinner for less than $5 per person - its lowest price to date. 

Alongside the price reductions, Target announced a $500,000 donation to Feeding America, the national hunger-relief organisation. 

The contribution will support Feeding America’s network of 200 food banks and 60,000 partner agencies, providing five million meals and distributing emergency food boxes to households facing food insecurity. 

The donation forms part of Target’s 2025 food security goals, which include more than $2.5m in grants alongside 150 million pounds of food.  

Target executive vice-president and chief merchandising officer of food, essentials and beauty Lisa Roath stated: "I'm proud of the way our team moved quickly to lower prices on thousands of items our guests need most. 

"It's important work that will make a difference for families managing tight household budgets during the holidays. And it's work that builds on Target's legacy of strengthening communities through the way we run our business." 

The retailer is on track to contribute $400m in products and cash to nonprofits this year, building on $16m in grants to Feeding America over the past two decades. 

In early November 2025, Target issued a workplace directive, mandating store employees to greet and engage with shoppers.  

The initiative, known as the 10-4 programme, requires employees to smile, make eye contact, and greet or wave when a shopper is within 10 feet of them. 

This follows the company’s announcement of plans to cut 1,800 corporate roles, with the aim of reversing declining sales and returning to growth.  

Minneapolis-based Target operates close to 2,000 stores nationwide and also sells through its online channel.
