Supermarket chain Tesco Ireland plans to create 400 jobs as part of a €40m ($47m) investment to open ten new stores nationwide over the 12 months to July 2026.

The new roles will increase Tesco Ireland’s permanent workforce to more than 13,500.

Tesco Ireland CEO Geoff Byrne stated: "This €40m investment underscores our commitment to maintaining our position as a leading employer and retailer in Ireland. Our colleagues are at the heart of our business, and we look forward to welcoming new team members this year and recognising them with market-leading reward and benefits.”

The new Tesco stores will include both larger supermarkets and smaller Express outlets and will bring the retailer's total number of stores in Ireland to 193.

The new Fermoy store in County Cork, scheduled to open by the end of July 2025, will account for 100 of these new jobs.

In addition to the Cork location, Tesco plans to open new stores in Dublin, Galway, Louth and Meath.

Recruitment for supermarkets located in the M1 Retail Park and Howth is expected to commence in the autumn.

Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke stated: “Tesco’s announcement … of 400 new jobs stemming from their €40m expansion is an incredible boost for our local towns and the Irish economy. The creation of these jobs, particularly with the opening of 10 new stores across several counties including Cork, Dublin, and Galway, is a clear endorsement of Ireland's retail sector and workforce.

“Our Programme for Government commits to driving balanced regional development and further investment in rural communities, and this multi-million-euro investment is a prime example of positive regional impact.”

Tesco stated that its employees receive several rewards and benefits, including access to a free virtual GP service, a 24/7 employee assistance programme, life assurance, a pension savings retirement plan and a bonus scheme.

Its Colleague Clubcard gives a 10% year-round discount on groceries, which increases to 15% one weekend each month, and a constant 20% discount on F&F clothing.

In June 2025, Tesco recorded a 28% rise in market share in the UK, with an increase of 44 basis points year-on-year (YoY) for the 13 weeks ended 24 May 2025 (Q1 2025/26).
