Israeli retail-tech startup Xpand has opened its first European fully autonomous convenience store in Vienna, Austria.  

The newly opened retail store is situated near Mariahilferstraße, the city’s premier shopping street.  

For the launch, the company collaborated with Campo Group, a provider of robotics and AI automation solutions. 

The location uses Xpand’s "store-in-a-box” system and stocks a convenience assortment that includes ambient, chilled and frozen items. 

The venue operates 24/7 without onsite staff and employs AI, robotics and real time inventory management to orchestrate shopping and loss prevention.  

Commenting on the launch, Xpand CEO Joel Bar-El stated: "Opening our first international store in Vienna marks a pivotal moment in Xpand's mission to make autonomous retail accessible worldwide. 

"This store demonstrates how our AI-driven technology transforms the retail experience while maximising operational efficiency." 

The opening of the Vienna store follows a recent investment round led by Ibex Investors and Emerge, with participation from Xpand’s leadership team.

The company, which raised $6m in August 2025, intends to use the funding to support its next phase of growth.
