Advanced Microgrid Solutions (AMS) will deploy its hybrid electric building technology in selected Walmart stores in the US.
As part of the agreement, AMS will design, install and operate new energy storage systems at the stores to guarantee energy savings and provide flexible grid support to local utilities.

In the project’s initial phase, 40MWh of advanced energy storage systems would be installed at 27 Walmart stores in southern California.
With these storage systems, the retailer will be able to reduce costs by permanently reducing each store's peak electricity demand and also by providing dispatchable grid support to Southern California Edison (SCE).
Walmart energy vice-president Mark Vanderhelm said: "Cost-efficiency is the hallmark of the Walmart brand.
"Adding energy storage capabilities to our clean energy resources reduces the capacity needed from the grid and is part of our commitment to increase reliance on renewable energy."

Hybrid electric buildings automatically optimise a building's overall energy usage, control energy consumption as well as reduce costs.
AMS CEO Susan Kennedy said: "When it comes to sustainable and efficient energy management, Walmart sets the global standard.
