Grocery technology company Ocado Group has expanded its partnership with Spanish supermarket chain Bon Preu by confirming the development of a new customer fulfilment centre (CFC) in Parets del Vallès, Catalonia, Spain.

The development aims to enhance the online grocery shopping experience for customers in the region.

The new automated CFC will enable Bon Preu to manage its considerable online volumes with what has been described as the world’s most efficient online grocery fulfilment technology, including Ocado’s suite of Re:Imagined technologies.

Ocado said that after a period of rapid growth facilitated by Ocado’s in-store fulfilment (ISF) solution, the new CFC will offer the retailer’s customers a wider product range, improved freshness and a higher perfect order rate.

At the same time, it will deliver the cost efficiencies associated with Ocado’s robotic automation.

Ocado Solutions Europe president Gregor Ulitzka stated: “Our partnership with Bon Preu is an amazing example of a retailer using the full strategic toolkit that Ocado offers. They have already developed a market-leading online proposition in Catalonia with Ocado’s in-store fulfilment technology and will now benefit from a highly automated CFC, offering an enhanced customer proposition and a significantly lower cost-to-serve. We look forward to continuing to work together to deliver unbeatable experiences online to customers in the Catalonia region.”

Bon Preu has been using Ocado’s advanced technology to strengthen its e-commerce supply chain, since becoming Ocado’s first international partner in 2017.

Bon Preu’s online business has seen substantial growth since its inception in 2018, capturing significant market share. It has outpaced the overall online channel growth in Spain and achieved the highest customer satisfaction scores in Catalonia.

In 2024, the Spanish consumer organisation recognised it as the top-rated online grocery service in the country.

Bon Preu Group commercial director Anna Font i Tanyà said: “We are pleased with the success we’ve achieved since launching BonpreuEsclat online, which has led us to become the highest-rated online supermarket by consumers. We will continue improving the range, punctuality and quality of the orders in our operations, and we will do so in close partnership with Ocado. With their experience and technology, we are confident we will continue to grow in a sustained and sustainable way, while continuing to offer the best online shopping experience to our customers.”

In April 2025, South Korean retailer Lotte unveiled Lotte-Mart Zetta, its new online grocery app powered by the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP).
