By GlobalDataPiesvaux has led Delhaize as brand president since September 2017.
During his tenure, he implemented a strategy focused on fresh and healthy products under the message: “Better eating is at the heart of better living, for all.”
He also transitioned Delhaize in Belgium to a fully affiliated store model.
Following the leadership change, Piesvaux will continue to work within the Ahold Delhaize organisation.

Ahold Delhaize Europe and Indonesia CEO Claude Sarrailh added: “I firstly want to extend my thanks to Xavier for his vision and dedication across the past eight years.
“Together with his team, Xavier maintained a strong commitment to delivering healthy food and excellent service to Delhaize customers and communities, and succeeded in strengthening the Delhaize brand within the Belgian and Luxembourg retail market.
“Secondly, I’d like to congratulate Alexandros with his well-deserved step within the Delhaize family. In his previous roles, he has consistently demonstrated deep market insight and strategic vision, qualities that make me confident he will drive the continued growth of the Delhaize brand.”
In August 2025, Ahold Delhaize agreed to sell 87 of its stores across 44 localities in Romania to local supermarket chain Annabella.
The sale was a fulfilment of the company’s obligations set by the Romanian Competition Council (RCC) in relation to Ahold Delhaize’s acquisition of Romanian grocery retailer Profi Rom Food in January 2025.
The divestment included 82 stores operated by Profi and five by Ahold Delhaize’s other supermarket brand in Romania, called Mega Image.
