France has initiated proceedings to suspend the operations of online fast-fashion retailer Shein after authorities found prohibited products, including childlike sex dolls and illegal weapons, being sold on its platform.
The action comes as the Chinese-founded company opens its first physical outlet in a Paris department store, as reported by Reuters.

In early November 2025, France’s economy minister, Roland Lescure, warned that Shein could be barred from the French market if childlike sex dolls reappear on its e-commerce platform.
Acting on instructions from the Prime Minister, the French Finance Ministry said it had begun the process “for the time necessary for the platform to demonstrate to the public authorities that all of its content is finally in compliance with our laws and regulations.”
According to the ministry, the move followed inspections by France’s consumer watchdog, which uncovered items such as childlike sex dolls and weapons classified under Category A, covering firearms, knives and machetes.
Access to Shein’s online marketplace could be blocked in France until the company proves that its listings meet national legal requirements.

By GlobalDataIf prohibited items remain available, the government warned that it could take further steps, including suspending Shein’s website in the country.
A preliminary report on the retailer’s corrective measures is expected within 48 hours.
In response, Shein stated that it has sanctioned the involved sellers, imposed a global ban on sex dolls across its platform, and voluntarily paused its French marketplace to review and strengthen monitoring of third-party vendors.
The Finance Ministry did not clarify whether the measure would extend to Shein’s new brick-and-mortar store in Paris.
Founded in China in 2012 and now headquartered in Singapore, Shein operates both its own clothing line and a marketplace for third-party sellers.
