According to the company, each store is set to feature a simplified layout, an expanded range of products and updated interiors.

Customers will also have access to click-and-collect and home delivery options through the Food Lion To Go website and mobile app.

Food Lion president Greg Finchum said: “This growth is part of Food Lion’s commitment to nourish our neighbours and set them up for success in life by being a trusted neighbourhood grocer in existing and new towns and cities across our footprint.

“Each new store strengthens our ability to deliver an easy, fresh and affordable omnichannel grocery shopping experience while supporting the communities where our neighbours live, work and raise their families.”

The stores will stock fruit and vegetables, meat, and a selection of ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook meals, as well as “organic”, “gluten-free” and plant-based options, the company said.

The retailer added that checkout facilities will combine self-checkout lanes with staffed tills, and the stores will carry Food Lion’s Nature’s Promise own-brand products.

As part of the retailer’s Local Goodness programme, the new outlets will also offer a range of items sourced from growers and manufacturers based in North Carolina and South Carolina.

In October 2025, Food Lion’s owner Ahold Delhaize USA (ADUSA) announced plans to build a new distribution centre in Burlington, North Carolina.

The new centre is part of its Growing Together strategy to expand and strengthen its long-term infrastructure network.

The $860m project is being carried out by ADUSA’s distribution and transportation arms, ADUSA Distribution and ADUSA Transportation.
